The Education Legacy Scheme is a dedicated initiative designed to provide comprehensive educational support, opening avenues for deserving children to excel academically and create positive impacts in their lives. This policy outlines the guidelines for the meticulous selection process, ensuring transparency, fairness, and a commitment to uplifting the educational landscape.
Coverage
The Education Legacy Scheme encompasses various facets, including but not limited to:
- Purchasing WAEC forms for secondary school students.
- Procuring JAMB forms for students who have completed/passed WAEC/NECO.
- Covering University Acceptance fees for those with proven admission and evidence of full or partial scholarship.
- Funding (full/partial) for primary, secondary, and tertiary education fees.
- Acquiring educational materials such as exercise books and writing materials.
Objectives
a) Identify children showcasing potential and dedication to education.
b) Offer equal opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
c) Promote diversity and inclusivity in beneficiary selection.
d) Ensure transparency, fairness, and consistency in the selection process.
Criteria for Selection
The following criteria shall be considered when selecting children for the educational legacy scheme:
(a) Financial Need: Children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will be given priority. Evaluation of financial need may include household income, parental employment status, and other relevant factors.
- The beneficiaries’ income or family income must be less than the annual minimum wage (N360, 000 Naira per Annum)
- The beneficiaries parent employment status must be verified with evidence of salary payment slips/Salary payment alerts/Bank statement of account made available.
(b) Academic Potential: Children who show academic promise and a strong desire to learn will be considered.
This may include evaluating their academic records, teacher recommendations, and performance in tests.
- The cumulative academic record of the beneficiary for the previous session prior to the scholarship application will be computed alongside an independent quiz set by “The Synergistic Homies” to an overall score of 100% with a pass mark of 60%.
- The beneficiary must have displayed a high level of “Integrity and Excellence” as recommended by the teacher with little to no record of serious offense.
(c) Motivation and Commitment: Children who demonstrate a genuine interest in education and a strong motivation to succeed will be given preference. Factors such as extracurricular activities, community involvement, and personal statements may be considered.
- The beneficiaries must have displayed a high interest in a career path and the desire to achieve the career goal.
- Letter of intent should be written by the beneficiaries (Secondary/Tertiary student) for the scholarship application to be approved. The letter of intent shall be reviewed by the executive members of “Synergistic Homies Initiative”.
(d) Social Impact: Preference may be given to children who have the potential to make a positive impact on their communities or society as a whole. This can be assessed through their involvement in social initiatives, leadership qualities, or a strong passion for addressing societal challenges.
- Preference will be given to beneficiaries who have displayed leadership capabilities in extracurricular activities and school clubs
(e) Diversity and Inclusivity: Efforts should be made to ensure diversity and inclusivity in the selection process. This includes considering factors such as gender, ethnicity, disability, and geographic representation.
- “Synergistic Homies Initiative” will be fair and unbiased in its selection process to all ethnic groups and geographic representation.
- Provision will be made for disabled persons who display the required level of intelligence to be involved in the selection process.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process for the educational legacy scheme should adhere to the following guidelines:
a) Outreach and Awareness: Disseminate information about the scheme to eligible candidates through schools, community organizations, and other relevant channels. (Website Page, Flier, social media platform)
b) Application and Documentation: Establish a formal application process that collects necessary information, including financial details, academic records, personal statements, and recommendation letters. (Website form, Referral plan)
c) Review and Shortlisting: Form a selection committee comprising representatives from relevant departments or organizations. The committee should review applications, assess eligibility, and shortlist candidates based on the established criteria.
d) Interviews and Assessment: Conduct interviews or assessment tests, if necessary, to further evaluate shortlisted candidates. This step may involve face-to-face or virtual interviews, group discussions, or practical assessments.
e) Selection and Notification: The selection committee should make final decisions based on the overall assessment of candidates. Successful applicants should be notified promptly, while unsuccessful applicants should receive feedback and guidance for future opportunities.
TRANSPARENCY & CONFIDENTIALITY
The selection process should be transparent, ensuring that all decisions are made based on the established criteria. Confidentiality of applicant information should be maintained, and data protection protocols should be followed.
