Location: Love Home Orphanage, Magodo, Shangisha, Lagos
Barely six (6) months after establishing the Group, we had our maiden outreach at Love Home Orphanage in Magodo, re-enacting our dedication to making a positive social impact. The goal as we reached out to the orphans was to demonstrate love and inspire them to be change-makers by boosting their sense of self-worth and fostering a growth mindset as they walk through life.
On May 11th, 2019, the event came to life. Aside from the interesting and fun game sessions which stirred social interaction between the volunteers and the children, the major highlight of the day was the interactive workshop session facilitated by Ibukun Akomolafe. The workshop centered on building the right self-esteem and healthy relationships. The session taught them how to develop social skills and succeed through relationships without recourse to their background.
Our token of love which includes both edible and non-edible items, in moderate quantities was donated to support their needs.
Based on our outlook to possibly run an orphanage in the future, we conducted a brief interview with the staff of the orphanage to know daily challenges, modus operandi, and the impact of their dedication in caring for the children in their personal lives.
Indeed, the successful execution of our maiden outreach and the impact recorded based on the children’s testimonials was instrumental to helping drive towards achieving our goals despite the challenges experienced.
